Cocktail Party
Zohar Raanan, a fellow student of ours and one of the organizers of this event, was kind enough to write a little something about this Friday's event. Please do make up your mind about what to do this Friday evening and buy your ticket at the University's entrance right away. After all, it's for a good cause!

We are happy to announce our Second Annual Charity Event "Cocktails For A Cause"
This fundraiser is aimed to raise money for the less privileged children in and around Pecs. Last year we had amazing results and we look forward to achieving the same this year. All proceeds go to Kolping, an organization that provides children and families with day care centers, clothes, holiday events and more.
The charity event will take place on Friday, November 24th 2006, at Apollo. Doors will open at 21:00.
There will be appetizers, a live band, slideshow, D.J., lots of cocktails and dancing.
Tickets are sold at the entrance to the Aula this week.
Price: 1500 Ft. (pre-sale), and 2000Ft. (at the door).
Hope to see you there!!!
Getting your gradebook - a reminder
This is just a friendly reminder. Please don't forget (and this is for your own sake) to get your gradebooks from the registrar's office. All students will have to fill in the subjects themselves and the gradebooks must be returned to the registrar's office until the 24th of November. Also, please do make sure you don't have any delay fees, for these must be paid for before you can take care of this matter.

Cheers,
Joao Vinagre
1st semester exam period - official transcript
Dear fellow students,

Here is a transcript e-mailed to me from the registrar's office concerning the code of studies and examinations for the 1st semester. Think you should take a look at it. First years (or all of those who never bothered to read the code), I would advice you to read it fully. For all of those who are already familiar with the code or are in a rush, I wrote a small summary pointing out the major changes, some of them already familiar to you as well:

1. Dean's exam must be held during the exam period
2. Last week of the exam period will also be registration week, the deadline for signing up for subjects being February 3rd 2007
3. Exam changes must be done no later than at 9 am, 2 working days before the current exam date

Cheers,
Joao Vinagre

Meeting canceled
Due to the fact the we have gotten our week of exam period back, THERE WILL BE NO MEETING TODAY! Please spread the word.
We have gotten our week back
The exam week that was taken from us a couple of days has now been returned to us. At least for now. This means that the emerging exam period WILL have the 7 weeks originally outlined! However, the dean's chance will stay marginalized. So don't count on your dean's chance to extend your exam period anymore.
Severe Truncation of the Exam Period
Fellow students.

In light of the topics discussed in tonight's student council meeting, where Mr. Beck Engelbert, head of the registers office, informed us of the current changes of administration and examination systems, we feel the urge to convey through this letter an explanation to our fellow students of the changes in question.

The seventh week of the 1st semester exam period no longer exists. The week in question will now be used for registration for the next semester. 1st semester exam period will thus extend from Dec. 18th to Jan. 26th. There will thus be 6 valid weeks available for sitting for exams. Whether this change affects the exam dates distributed by some departments for the 7th week, we don't know as of yet.

The Dean's chance (D-exam) no longer exists. However, there will be a "replacement D-exam" in its place. If the A, B and C chances have all been wasted, one has the right to sit for a D-exam if, and only if, there is a free spot on an already existing date, within the exam period. No D-exam will be held outside the exam period.

With these two changes made, the combined effect may cause some students to loose as much as 2 - 3 weeks of "exam studiyng"; not to mention the changes many students may have to accomodate in their exam schedules. In effect, one thing all of us can do to prevent being negatively affected by these changes is to plan on studying more subjects simultaneously before the exam period starts.

WE HAVE ONLY LEARNED ABOUT THESE CHANGES IN TONIGHT'S MEETING.

As far as we know, the changes have been made by the Faculty Council of Pecs University. This Faculty council is made up of select professors responsible for educational matters. We do have the oppurtnity to send a representative to these meetings. We have not been notified about any of the latter and have thus not been able to influence in any decision making.

Apparently the motion to take away/change the D-exam was voted for and accepted in June! In none of all of the Student Council's numerous meetings with different representatives from the faculty was this mentioned. On all of these meetings we have always stressed the need for better communication between the student body and the faculty. We consider this delay in information to be a serious lack of willingness to communicate properly with the students of this medical school.

We have concluded that the best solution is through an organized movement which will bring together and activally involve the English, Hungarian and German student bodies. To achieve this, we request your utmost cooperation and your views, therefore we are calling an open meeting to all English program students to be held on this Wednesday, the 15th of November, at 6 o'clock pm. The venue will be provided to you as soon as we get access to a lecture hall, so please be on the lookout for any sort of posting.

These changes seem to be in part associated with a pan-european process of uniformization of higher education studies, specifically in countries of the EU. We are aware that several student bodies in universities throughout Europe have already revolted against various changes introduced by the so-called treaty of Bologne, that according to many does not necessarily serve the best interests of the students. This process of change has flawed in the fact that students currently enrolled in their higher education studies have been victims of its introduction, and these events have brought great distress to European students.

We urge the students not to take any private initiative corcerning this problem. We strongly request that you share your thoughts in the above mentioned meeting, and we will be glad to present your ideas and fight for them before the ruling bodies. Nothing will be achieved by acting in a reactive and aggressive manner; we need to be proactive and unified in our decisions.

Yours sincerely,
Rajiv Merchant
Welcome
Welcome to the new and redesigned site for the Pécs Medical School English Program students on the web. I wish this web page could have been officially opened by the web master, but in light of recent events here at POTE I, the web designer, have no other choice but to kick this web site off as it is. Most of the content is not yet available, but there are people constantly at work collecting the most premium content possible for your enjoyment Happy

Please read the following news article CAREFULLY, and be sure to check back FREQUENTLY for any updates regarding this unfortunate condition all students here at POTE now is subject to.

Yours sincerely,
